Which parameters impact premiums and 2021 renewal conditions?
In general, one considers especially the following parameters:
- experience of the past year,
- technical results,
- medical inflation.
Experience of past year
Briefly, we had no particular question, complaint or feedback on notice of information and guides. Therefore, we consider that there is no need to review documents from this point of view. Nevertheless, we reviewed documents for the following reasons.
- Tokio Marine moved, and we had to update the address on documents,
- French regulation evolved, and it impacted the contract (cancellation),
- assistance repatriation is now managed on another platform. Contact details change → Phone: +33 5 86 85 01 15 ; email: [email protected],
- the benefit “Health and wellbeing checks” has been reviewed to better respond to expatriates’needs and better cover members.
Technical resultats
For the moment, technical results are good. Therefore, there is no need for the moment to increase premiums. That means no need to apply the global medical inflation index. Practically speaking,
- first, we increase premiums by 6,8% (medical inflation)
- then, we decrease premiums by 6,8% due to good results.
Medical inflation
Based on the following reports, one can notice that global medical inflation is 6,8%. In fact, that means that the Insurer needs the same amount of premium than past year + 6,8% increase to pay the same claims.
On top of this, you can check all available reports on this web site on the following page:

Technical results and cost containment
First of all, medical care is a business in many countries around the world. Therefore, the cost significantly vary from one practioner to another. And also can be negotiated. That’s why specific tools have been implemented, such as:
- Prior approval allow the medical team to check pathology, treatment and estimated costs. The goal is to verify that there is nothing wrong, and that costs are reasonnable,
- MSH International medical network gives you access to a list of practionners worldwide. They normally invoice normal tariff for the country. Sometimes, they offer special rates and discounts,
- Medical concierge: this service offers the possibility of finding medical alternatives. The Insurer’s medical unit exchanges with the member to find and propose alternatives. Example: instead of getting treated for cancer in Thailand, the Insurer offers the opportunity to fly to France and to get treated in a specialized center.
Cost containment can also be done by members
There is no need or medical reason to buy new glasses and frames every year, just because the contract offers this opportunity. In fact, doing this has a huge impact on technical results of the contract. And finally on premiums! That’s why why pay attention to this benefit and the use of members. Medically speaking (except in case of new prescription), the limit could be extended on a 2 years period.
Local insurance: if you are locally insured, do not hesitate to use the local insurance first. Anything that is not reimbursed by Indigo Expat improves the technical results of the contract. In this case, send the reimbursment statement instead of the original invoice to MSH International. This practice is virtuous, and has a positive impact on premiums the following year.
2021 renewal conditions & Services
Medical teleconsultations
From April 1st 2020, members can access a remote medical consultation platform. You can find this info at any time in your Member Area ⇒ “Your Health” / Teleconsultation / Medical. To sum up, members have access to medical advice or an opinion at any time 24/7, in 7 languages.
Medical check up for expatriates
First, prevention is always preferable to disease. On one hand, for the insured and from a human point of view. On the other hand, for the contract and from a financial point of view (premiums). In the long run, and despite the cost of a health check, it will still be less expensive than hospitalization and treatment. And much better for the member!
If one considers the French social security, it is really necessary to start with health check between 40 and 50 years. Because it is from these ages that health concerns can begin (dental prostheses, vision care). But more consistently, it is also a period when cancers or other serious pathologies can be discovered. The earlier the diagnosis can be done, the most chance of recovery has the member, for certain pathologies. That’s why the “Health and wellbeing checks” benefit has been revised to better cover this expense!
We recommand The Centre Médical International (CMI, 38, quai de Jemmapes, 75010 – Paris. Phone: +33 (0)1 43 17 22 00) for your complete Health Check (available in French and English). It takes approximatively half a day to complete.
Assistance & repatriation
In case member needs assistance, he/she have to contact the following phone number: 05 86 85 01 15 (from France) or +33 5 86 85 01 15 (from any other country).
Pay attention to the local regulation
